The earth element represents stability, nourishment and balance. It is associated with late summer, the center, moisture and the color yellow. In TCM, earth represents the spleen and stomach and is associated with nourishment, care and compassion.

Earth is one of the 5 elements/phases along with wood, fire, metal and water. The character Tu / Earth represents a person by the fire.Â
The earth phase represents inertia and origin. It is also the symbol of decay and decomposition, because all life returns to the earth. Earth has the quality of steadfastness, which can only be dissolved under pressure and abruptly. It also has a yin and a yang aspect. The yin earth symbolizes the moist earth, the sediment and everything that erodes. The yang earth represents the dry earth, the large rock formations, the land masses and the mountains. Immobility is its hallmark, which is why it is the symbol of permanence. Because the earth is everywhere, it is chosen as the center. It stands for vastness and greatness, symbolizes the beginning and the end and its authority is sublime and untouchable. Although it lacks drive, it helps with undertakings. It embodies land ownership and is an expression of power.Â

- Stability and balance: The element earth represents stability and balance. It stands for the center and the balance between the other elements.
- Late summer: The earth element is associated with late summer, when nature bears the fruits of the harvest. This is the time when the energy of the earth is at its strongest.
